Corp members, Nigerians react as INEC promises automatic employment

A cross section of Nigerians and corps members have reacted to the announcement of automatic employment by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who distinguished themselves during the 2019 general election.

INEC’s Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on Monday during the presentation of laptops and phones used by the European Election Observation Mission to 75 corps members promised that the commission will grant automatic employment to NYSC corp members who distinguished themselves during the 2019 general election.

Yakubu added that those who will participate in the Bayelsa and Kogi governorship elections scheduled for November will get the same reward.

The announcement has since stirred reactions from Nigerians on social media as some corps members called on INEC to pay up the money owed them during the 2019 election.

Here are some comments:

@Kehindetosin91 “Some corpers died and some were brutally wounded here in River state, yet they are yet to be paid for their work done. Now, how realistic is this employment thing.”

@Sola.O.Sola “INEC is really APC and Buhari, this is obvious. But truth cannot die; four years is just around the corner.”

@Saduwavictor “This is to discourage corps members from testifying at the tribunal.”
